How To Make Dulce de Leche
It's actually pretty easy to make your own dulce de leche but it does takes some time. First, you'll need a can of condensed milk. Make sure you have condensed milk and NOT evaporated milk. Remove the entire label from can. Puncture three holes on the top of can in the shape of a triangle to allow the heat of the can to escape. Otherwise you could have an evaporated milk can explosion in your kitchen. Place the can in the center of a sauce pan and fill the sauce pan with water about 3/4 high up on the can.
Allow the water to a simmer for about 3 to 4 hours or until desired consistency. For a thicker texture cook closer to 4 hours. When satisfied with texture, use tongs to remove can from sauce pan to allow to cool slightly and pour dulce de leche in a bowl. Stir to desired smoothness and allow to cool before storing.
Dulce de Leche is an incredible milk caramel sauce used in countless dessert recipes as a topping, filling, icing or frosting for alfajores, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pies, ice cream and other dulce de leche recipes. It's ingredients will make all your dulce de leche recipes even more delicious.
